A beautiful winter is coming to an end...
It's never too early to start thinking about summer fun in Maine!
Register for the July 2014 event here.
Moths are plentiful here in our part of Maine, and if you appreciate them, you'll be glad to know that starting in 2012 there is now a National Moth Week! Check out the official website by clicking the words above. Coincidentally, we're having a lot of moth action here, and not a night goes by that we don't get some neat photos. Even on the rainy nights, the moths are out. If you've ever taken the time to look at them more closely, you'll see that there are great variations even within the same species. Markings will be slightly different. They're all different! We have recently started a Facebook group called Moths of Maine, to encourage the sharing of photos and information. Check it out, or you can view a bit of our moths image collection right here on the site at our Insects & Spiders section. We will be updating with more photos soon. We took part in National Moth Week 2012 (see our mention in their blog here), 2013, and are very much excited for this year's event after the long winter.
--Appreciating the Beauty Around Us--
We're here to share photos and appreciation of the wildlife, nature and beautiful scenery that surrounds us here in Down East Maine, including Washington and Hancock Counties - from Eastport to Bar Harbor! There is no shortage of it! It's just a matter of remembering to take the camera along. We would love for people all over the world to share and see some of the natural wonders that we get to enjoy in our little corner of Maine every day. We welcome any photo submissions, anecdotes or local information and seek to provide links to areas of local interest, including the businesses in our area.
